Rwanda Unveils Three Transformative Innovations to Advance Digital Finance and Inclusion at IFF2025
At the Inclusive Fintech Forum 2025 in Kigali, Rwanda made significant strides in digital transformation with the launch of three groundbreaking innovations aimed at revolutionizing financial inclusion and digital public infrastructure.
One of the key highlights was the unveiling of Rwanda National Digital Payment System (RNDPS 2.0), a game-changing initiative designed to modernize digital payments. Developed through a strategic partnership with the Ministry of ICT and Innovation, the Ministry of Finance and economic Planning, the Central Bank of Rwanda, RISA, Access to Finance Rwanda, Rswitch, AfricaNenda, and Mojaloop. RNDPS 2.0 will enhance interoperability, streamline transactions, and boost financial accessibility for individuals and businesses across Rwanda.
Another transformative innovation was the introduction of eKash P2M (Person-to-Merchant) Payments by RSwitch. This new system eliminates payment delays, hidden fees, and the need for multiple transfers, allowing customers to pay merchants directly from their bank or wallet, regardless of where they bank. With Bank of Kigali and Mvend Group as the first merchant acquirers to integrate the system, eKash is set to drive efficiency and inclusivity in Rwanda’s financial ecosystem.
Last but not least, Rwanda launched the Center for Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), a hub dedicated to fostering open and scalable digital systems that promote financial inclusion and economic growth. The center will support innovation, research, and policy development while positioning Rwanda as a leader in DPI adoption across Africa.
These three initiatives reflect Rwanda’s unwavering commitment to digital transformation, ensuring a seamless, inclusive, and future-ready financial ecosystem.
