EU Heads of Mission visit Rubavu Hanga Hub, highlighting impact of digital innovation and skills development in Rwanda
On March 24, Rwanda Information Society Authority welcomed the Heads of Mission of European Union member states based in Kigali, alongside the Ambassador of the European Union to Rwanda, Belen Calvo, for a joint project visit to Rubavu District, including the Rubavu Hanga Hub.
The visit, part of the European Union-funded Hanga Project implemented by RISA in partnership with the ICT Chamber, provided an opportunity to assess the impact of EU-supported initiatives advancing innovation, entrepreneurship, and skills development.
At the Rubavu Hanga Hub, the delegation toured the facility and engaged with talented local innovators, witnessing firsthand how digital transformation and entrepreneurship are empowering communities and shaping Rwanda’s future. The visit highlighted how young innovators are leveraging hands-on skills, mentorship, and technology to develop impactful solutions.
The broader visit to Rubavu District also showcased the impact of EU-supported programs in the tourism and hospitality sector, including the Ubukerarugendo Imbere Project implemented by the Rwanda TVET Board. Through key interventions such as Industry-Based Training (IBT), work readiness programs, trainer industry exposure, and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), the project is strengthening workforce readiness. The delegation engaged with IBT beneficiaries who are now employed after completing a nine month intensive training program.
The visit was further enriched by the participation of the Aguka Project implemented by the United Nations Development Programme, underscoring the power of partnerships in driving inclusive growth and innovation.
Overall, the visit reaffirmed the strong collaboration between the European Union and Rwanda in advancing digital transformation, skills development, and youth empowerment, while highlighting the critical role of innovation hubs and training programs in building a resilient and future-ready economy.
